Escaping The Heat

It's been the warmest week of the year and I hear it will be just as warm (and humid) this coming week. That's why it was a very bad time for our central air conditioning unit to fail. This happened on Friday and I spent the rest of the afternoon trying to get soneone to come over and check it out. Only one person responded and they weren't able to check it out until Saturday.

It turns out that the unit's motor is shot and it makes sense to replace the whole thing. So there goes a nice chunk of my recent bonus. But we need the air conditioning more than we need the money so we'll have to wait until Monday (hopefully) to have the new unit installed. In the meantime we've bugged out to my Mom's house in Queens so that Juliet and Mia can be suitably comfortable for most of the weekend.

I hear it's going to be even more humid and miserable in the coming week so we'll be glad to get the new unit installed and running tomorrow.

Sea Lions at Central Park Zoo

So we didn't travel too far. But just before Juliet had Mia we took a trip to the Central Park Zoo and among other things enjoyed the feeding of the Sea Lions. This is always a fun and interesting event.

Keeping Up With The War On Terror

Everyone knows I'm fond of our brothers and sisters who serve in the military due to my service in the Army from 1993-1998. These days it can be very difficult to find objective information on what's really happening in Iraq and Afghanistan. Most of the coverage here in the U.S. focuses on homocide bombers, improvised explosive devices and stateside motor mouths from both sides of the political fence.

Recently I've found my way to a great group of weblogs called MilBlogs. MilBlogs are a group of active duty soldiers, veterans and their family members who are posting thoughts, experiences and news to the internet. There are many interesting MilBlogs especially the ones penned by tropps serving in the combat zone today. My favorite one though is a site called the Mudville Gazette. This weblog features a daily post called Dawn Patrol that highlights important topics from other MilBlogs.

So if you're interested in finding out more info about what's really happening with the war, start out at Mudville Gazette and branch out to explore the many voices of MilBlogs.

Original Song - The Hardest Thing

I believe this tune speaks for itself. I recorded it in early 2005 as a way of showing my support for soldiers serving in the combat zone. Here's wishing them a successful mission and a speedy return to our shores.

Original Song - Causeway Blues

This is just a dirty blues instrumental that I came up with and recorded in early 2005.

Original Song - Tell Me

I wrote this song back in 2003, prior to marrying Juliet. No secret to what it's about. Enjoy.

Help Support A True 9/11 Memorial

All of our friends and family have been directly affected by the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The firefighters, policemen, emergency service workers and civilians who were killed on 9/11 deserve a memorial that recognizes their lives and how they perished on that fateful day. Unfortunately, certain organizations have been allowed to enforce and "international" agenda on the proposed 9/11 memorial. This means that instead of chronicling the events of that day and honoring those lost, the focus will be on examining the faults of the U.S. as indicated by a variety of foreign nationals and radical U.S. interest groups.

I stand firmly against these intentions and firmly for a memorial solely about the 9/11 event and the people who lost their lives on that day. An organization called Take Back The Memorial is leading the fight to have a true memorial to 9/11 instead of a memorial that serves the needs of radical interest groups. I urge you to support this organization and if possible, attend the rally at Ground Zero on September 10, 2005.
