Mommy, Daddy and Mia went on a field trip to Asbury Park, NJ last week. Unfortunately the sunny weather in Weehawken was not to be found fifty miles south on the Jersey shore. The western edge of a tropical storm was hitting the beach with the result being bands of rain and heavy surf. As a result we had to seek out shelter under this meager overhang. We were able to give Mia her first ever close encounter with the ocean though. We rushed to the edge of the surf during a break in the storm to catch a few precious moments of beach time. The rain not withstanding, Mia loved being so close to the sand and pounding surf.

Even better, Mia had an excellent milestone today. For the first time ever Mia got herself up to a sitting position from laying on her back. Then for an encore she pulled herself to standing.

All of this occurred in her crib unbeknownst to Juliet and me. We heard Mia calling out as she usually does when resisting her nap, but after about fifteen minutes I decided to take a look and sure enough she was standing up in the crib with a big grin on her face.

Time to raise the level of the bar!

A few minutes of audio that I captured while sitting next to Mia on our first airline trip together on June 7, 2006. Mia, Mommy and Daddy were sitting in the bulkhead row with Mia in her very familiar car seat between us. Mia did very well during the flight, only getting fussy for a couple of minutes during the landing in Phoenix.
